President’s Message

Dear Colleagues,

I am truly grateful for the trust you have placed in me to serve as the 2025 San Diego Section President. My journey with this esteemed organization began in 2009, when I joined as a San Diego State University student during my junior year. I was drawn to ITE after learning about the diverse opportunities in transportation planning and engineering, and recognizing the meaningful impact this field has on everyday life. The ITE SDSU chapter provided me with invaluable experiences, offering opportunities to learn about innovative topics and build lasting connections with local professionals—many of whom are now close friends.

Thanks to the relationships I formed through ITE, I was able to secure an internship, my first job, and eventually my current position. Serving on the ITE San Diego Section board is a significant milestone in my career, as this organization has been instrumental in launching and advancing my path in transportation. It continues to support my growth by fostering connections and providing a platform for knowledge-sharing.

This year, we remain firmly committed to supporting education, stimulating research, and fostering the growth of our members. We are excited to announce a renewed focus on in-person lunch meetings featuring technical topics designed to keep our members informed about new ideas, updated guidelines, relevant research, and the latest technologies. Additionally, we have several social and networking events planned, including a mini-golf happy hour, golf tournament, summer picnic with a cornhole tournament, vendor show, and our holiday awards party.

I ask for your support this year by actively participating in these events, encouraging coworkers to join, volunteering to assist, and sharing your ideas and expertise to help us achieve our shared mission. Together, I am confident we can make a meaningful impact in creating a safer and more efficient transportation system for all while inspiring the next generation of transportation leaders.

Thank you for your continued support of our organization. I look forward to working alongside each of you in the year ahead.

Sincerely,
Joe Shultz, P.E., T.E.
